Growth Mindset

At West End Primary School we believe in the value of teaching children to have a 'growth mindset'. Children with a growth mindset believe that their intelligence and ability can be developed through persistence, effort, learning from their mistakes and trying new strategies. This leads to them being resilient, confident learners who are not afraid to make mistakes and understand that they will learn from them.
Growth Mindset is based on the work of Dr Carol Dweck. In her work she refers to the 'Four Rs'.
Resilience - The ways that you deal with yourself
Resourcefulness - The ways that you think
Relating - The way that you deal with others
Reflection -The ways that you improve as a learner
At West End we aim to support the children to develop in these four areas. The information in this section will help you see how we do this.
